The Kurgi Farm is owned by a young couple and home to the famous and rare Latvian Ardennes horse breed. The farm is located in North Latvia Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO as a site of international importance.
The main intention of the project was to create a peaceful backdrop to the vast scenery of the landscape. To find a way in creating new ways of experiencing the surrounding through the observation tower. The facade is constructed with CNC-ed wood planks, each with the same profile and simple notching detail, bolted to the primary structure. By repeating the same modular element on the elevator, the project intends to simplify the building process and minimize both material and labor.

Connections to the surrounding nature preserve, the experience ascending to the balcony, and interplay with the farm's rare horses ensure the tower will leave visitors with a lasting impression. Additionally, the playful form of the haystack tower presents an iconic landmark sure to become a magnetic eco-tourism destination.
